Story

Every week on a Friday afternoon we put all the students’ names into a hat and make a 15 second video of a teacher or local ‘celebrity’ drawing a name. To keep it exciting we try and make the videos in as many different places as possible - the most unusual of these was a teacher who filmed herself making the draw in the Grand Canyon! Teachers then play this video for students in tutor group time on Friday afternoons. If the student whose name has been drawn has had 100% attendance and punctuality they receive a £20 shopping voucher (sponsored by a local employer). If not it becomes a ‘roll over’ week and the £20 is added to the next week’s total.

Impact

We have seen a significant improvement in attendance and punctuality – the school is now exceeding its targets in this area. This has also helped improve learning and achievement.
